A Unique Collaboration
The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is a unique collaboration between a private university and a public college, theatre professionals and the northeast Georgia community.  This extraordinary alliance between Brenau University and University of North Georgia, which pools faculty talent and three state-of-the-art performance spaces, focuses on individualized training while emphasizing strong ensemble and support.  GTA combines challenging course work (ACE Award for Academic Excellence) with a quality production program (ACTF National Finalist).

The quality of production activity at GTA is far above that found at most colleges and universities at the undergraduate level.  In essence, GTA is a professional theatre attached to a college theatre program.  This is a model found, almost exclusively, in highly competitive conservatory programs.  Theatre majors from both institutions take classes together, on both campuses, as well as work together on all production projects.

We believe in self-motivated individuals who will be open to learning both on AND off the stage, in all areas of our field.  We believe in working hard in a practical craft.  We believe in the educated artist.

UNG (formerly named Gainesville College) and Brenau University won a national award for academic excellence and cost management from The American Council on Education in 2000, and in 1990, GTA was nationally recognized as "a model theatre program" and invited to perform The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  GTA is consistently ranked one of the top theatres in the state by the Georgia Council for the Arts.  The theater program has garnered both local and national awards and is considered one of the top theater companies in the state of Georgia.
